So what is cdb?

With the current wellbeing buzz surrounding CBD, it’s easy to forget that cannabis is actually one of the oldest ‘crops’ grown by man and its benefits have been enjoyed for over 6,000 years.  In fact, the first recorded use of cannabis was back in 4,000 BCE when it was used in ancient China during what must have been some pretty primitive surgery.

Today, we’re much more clued up about cannabis.  We have a better understanding of the science behind it and what makes it such an effective, multipurpose plant.  Which brings us onto CBD…

Before getting into what CBD is and how it works it’s important to explain a little bit about ‘cannabinoids’ and about something called the ‘endocannabinoid system’.

Cannabinoids are the naturally occurring chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant.  There’s more than 100 of them and it’s these cannabinoids that deliver cannabis’s many effects.

The cannabinoids work by interacting with a large network of receptors in the body called the endocannabinoid system. Everyone has the endocannabinoid system inside them, and the receptors can be found all over the body, from head to toe.

Of all 120+ cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, there are 2 which are the most prevalent and the most well-known – CBD and THC. CBD (otherwise known as Cannabidiol) is probably the most important and most beneficial cannabinoid.

CBD is also ‘non-psychoactive’ which means it doesn’t deliver any of the ‘high’ which normally springs to mind when you think of cannabis.

Talking of the ‘high’, the other more infamous cannabinoid found in the plant is called THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC focusses its attention on interacting with the endocannabinoid receptors in the brain, which is what makes it psycho-active and deliver the ‘high’ feeling.

When it comes to buying CBD oil, isolate or broad-spectrum based products are often preferable as the THC content is completely removed.  For example, in all our products we use a CBD extraction process which removes the THC cannabinoid compound, so there’s no risk of any unwanted psychoactive effects.  This process also allows us to deliver more refined and purer CBD. So more of the good stuff, and none of the bad.

There’s much more to learn and we would urge you to do your own research before buying any CBD-based products to make sure you know exactly what you’re getting and what to expect.

We still find the whole thing amazing.  The fact that cannabis contains ‘cannabinoids’ and our bodies have an ‘endocannabinoid system’ blows our mind every day, especially when you consider all the great things that can happen when they come together.  Almost as if it was meant to be…
